MBGT 2025 - Official Scoring System

    Official Rules

After careful review of both the PGA Tour and LIV Golf scoring and prize award systems the MBGT Tournament Scoring Commissioner (a.k.a. Scott Pietrs) created what will certainly be remembered in the annals of golf history as the most unique and comprehensive multi-day scoring system ever created. Here are the details:

Points will be accrued each day by all trip participants. Fabulous Prizes will be awarded at the Awards Banquet (Saturday night at Gabriel's) using the following process:

    • The trip participant earning the highest point total will have first choice from the pool of Fabulous Prizes. The participant with the next-highest point total shall select next, and so on, until all participants have selected a Fabulous Prize from the remaining prize poll.
    • A second round will commence after the completion of the first round. The participant with the lowest point total shall make the first selection of the second round, followed by the next highest participant, and so on, until the Fabulous Prize selection round is complete.
    • Additional rounds (if necessary) will follow the same format. So, for example, if a 3rd round is required the participant with the highest point total will make the first selection following the same rules as the first round. If a 4th round is required the selection order will be the same as Round 2.
    • There are selection limits for certain extra-special "Premium Items". Translation: only one flannel shirt per participant.

Got it? Great! Here's how points are earned:

    • 1 point earned per round of golf completed.
    • 2 points earned for each "Closest to the Pin" contest.
    • 1 point for long drive.
    • 1 point for long putt.
    • 4 points earned for each team member of the day's winning team.
    • 3 points per team member for the 2nd place team.
    • 2 points per team member for the 3rd place team.
    • 1 point if you are a Milestone Birthday Honoree.
    • 1 point if your golf attire includes a visible article of Hamm's clothing.
    • 3 points if you flew in to attend the event.
Please follow all local rules regarding carts on path vs. course, and 90-degree rule.
Also be discrete on bringing drinks into areas near the pro shop/clubhouse and practice areas, and be careful on the course, as some of them may prohibit outside drinks… (Roger rule: ID-10T)

DAILY FORMAT: Four-man scramble. If you have three players in your group, you’re allowed to rotate the 4th shot among each player.

    4th Shot Rotational Options:
    • Option 1: One player in group hits a second shot from each position on the hole, tee through green until hole is completed. Rotate to the next player on the following hole and so on. Each player will have six holes where they hit two shots throughout the hole.
    • Option 2: Instead of playing option 1 (above), you choose a designated putter before the round, which is a player to take a second putt on each of the 18 holes. This person will not rotate with the others in playing a second shot off the tee, fairway, and green. The other two players in the group will be in the rotation to hit a second shot from each position, tee to green. Once the team is on the green the designated putter gets two putts, while the other two players get one each. Essentially the two players will play a second ball on nine holes each, except for the green where they have one putt, and the designated putter will hit two putts from each location until the hole is completed. Note: If the designated putter completely sucks, is too intoxicated to putt, or leaves the course for any reason, their second putt is forfeited, and the two remaining players will only get one putt from each location on the green until the hole is completed. This will hold true for all remaining holes.

    Additional Rules

Threesome Teams Only: The rotating/extra shot on the par 3’s and the Long Drive hole count towards the contests.

Each player is allowed a single, non-transferable mulligan that can be used only once during the round, and at any time the team deems it worthy.

All drops should be within one club length no closer to the pin on the fairways and rough, and within four inches of the marked putt – no closer to the hole. Lies cannot be improved. Drops must occur on same type of grass/sand as original shot.

Ball on cart path/abnormal course condition/ground under repair: Free drop one club length from nearest point of relief (Rule 16.1) - no closer to the hole. If the ball in play is in an area that would normally be considered “ground under repair” a drop may occur outside that area no closer to the hole.

Lost Ball: One stroke penalty, then drink heavily! If you drop a replacement ball it becomes ball in play, and original ball is considered abandoned even if you later find the original ball.

THREE-minute rule on searching for the ball once you’re at its estimated location.
